A training aircraft crashed near Baramati Airport in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Wednesday, triggering concern among local residents and aviation authorities. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the aircraft was being used for pilot training when it reportedly lost balance during a routine flying exercise near the airport premises. The pilot and trainee onboard managed to escape safely after the aircraft crash-landed in an open area close to the runway.
Soon after the incident, emergency response teams, airport staff and local police rushed to the spot. Firefighters were also deployed as a precautionary measure to prevent any possible fire or fuel-related accident. Authorities later confirmed that both individuals onboard were safe and did not suffer serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses from nearby areas said they heard a loud sound before noticing the aircraft descending rapidly toward the ground. Some locals immediately informed emergency services, following which rescue teams reached the location within minutes.
Officials associated with the aviation training institute stated that the aircraft had taken off for a regular training sortie before the incident occurred. Technical experts are now expected to examine whether the crash happened due to mechanical failure, weather-related issues or pilot error.
The damaged aircraft remained near the crash site as investigators began inspection work. Aviation authorities are likely to submit a detailed report after reviewing flight records and conducting a technical assessment of the aircraft.
Baramati Airport is known for pilot training operations and frequently handles small aircraft used by aviation academies. Following the incident, some training activities in the area were reportedly reviewed temporarily as a safety measure.
Local administration officials said there was no damage to nearby residential areas or public property. Traffic movement around the airport region also remained normal after the situation was brought under control.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of strict safety protocols during aviation training exercises. Authorities have assured that a proper inquiry will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the crash and prevent similar incidents in the future.
