A tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district claimed the lives of three devotees and left five others injured after a gravel-laden truck lost control and crashed into a temple gathering on Tuesday. The incident occurred in Milak Chhavi village, where devotees had assembled for a religious prayer event at a Hanuman temple.
According to police officials, around 20 to 25 devotees, including women and children, were attending a 'Sundarkand' recitation under a temporary tent erected near the roadside temple. The peaceful gathering turned into a scene of chaos when a speeding truck carrying gravel reportedly skidded off the road. Authorities said the vehicle first rammed into a tree before veering towards the temple premises and overturning onto the gathering.
Eyewitnesses described moments of panic as the truck crashed into the tent, trapping several devotees beneath the vehicle and debris. Villagers rushed to the spot to rescue those trapped while police and emergency teams were alerted immediately. The injured were pulled out and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Bhadauria said that several people suffered injuries in the accident. Three devotees died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Param Singh (70), Mahipal (42), and five-year-old Aryaveer. The child had reportedly come to the village to visit his maternal grandparents when the tragedy struck.
Police officials stated that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while the injured are receiving medical care. The condition of some of the injured victims is being closely monitored. Authorities have also begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether negligence or overspeeding was involved.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with residents expressing grief over the loss of lives during a religious gathering. Local administration officials visited the accident site and assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to the affected families. The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and the dangers posed by heavy vehicles travelling through populated areas and village roads.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to examine the truck's condition, the driver's actions, and other factors that may have contributed to the fatal crash. The village remains in mourning as families and residents come to terms with the devastating loss.
