Police in the United States have announced a reward of USD 20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killing of 28-year-old Indian national Anshul Kuncha in Philadelphia. Kuncha, originally from Hyderabad, was fatally shot while delivering pizzas to a vacant property in North Philadelphia, in what investigators believe was a planned attack.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when Kuncha arrived at a housing complex to deliver an order. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed him carrying pizza boxes while being followed by two individuals dressed in dark clothing. Although the shooting itself was not captured on camera, police said the footage provides important clues about the suspects involved.
Investigators believe Kuncha may have been lured to the location through a fake pizza order placed to a vacant apartment. After completing the delivery, he was shot in the head at close range. Responding officers found him critically injured in a courtyard and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Evidence collected at the scene suggested the shooter was standing very close to the victim when the attack occurred.
Police have recovered the phone number used to place the pizza order and are working closely with the pizza shop to identify the caller and determine whether the order was directly connected to the murder. Investigators also found Kuncha’s vehicle near the scene, along with delivery equipment and untouched pizza boxes inside the vacant apartment.
The Consulate General of India in New York expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said it is in contact with Kuncha’s family while providing all possible assistance. Family members in Hyderabad have appealed to Indian authorities to help bring his mortal remains back home and ensure justice is served.
With no arrests made so far, Philadelphia police are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the suspects. The USD 20,000 reward is being offered as investigators intensify efforts to solve the case and bring those responsible to justice.
