Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay arrived at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday morning to take oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking a historic moment in the state’s political landscape. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader reached the venue amid tight security and enthusiastic crowds of supporters who gathered to witness the swearing-in ceremony.
The ceremony, held at the iconic stadium, was attended by several prominent political leaders, party members, film personalities, and Vijay’s family. The event was scheduled for the morning, with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administering the oath of office and secrecy.
Visuals from the venue showed a festive atmosphere, with supporters cheering as Vijay entered the stadium. Large LED screens were also set up across different parts of Chennai to allow the public to watch the ceremony live, underlining the massive public interest surrounding his rise to power.
Vijay’s ascent to the top post comes after his party secured enough legislative support to form the government. Reports indicate that the TVK managed to cross the majority mark with backing from allies and smaller parties, paving the way for Vijay to stake claim and assume office as Chief Minister.
Alongside Vijay, several members of his cabinet were also sworn in during the ceremony. The initial list includes key party leaders and allies, signalling the formation of a coalition-backed government.
In his first remarks after taking oath, Vijay described the moment as a “new beginning” and emphasized his commitment to governance focused on social justice and development. His statement set the tone for what is expected to be a transformative phase in Tamil Nadu politics.
The swearing-in ceremony is being viewed as a turning point, as Vijay becomes one of the few film personalities in India to successfully transition into the role of a state chief minister. With high expectations from supporters and observers alike, all eyes are now on the policies and administrative direction his government will take in the coming days.
