The Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal has said that repolling will be conducted at booths if allegations of EVM button tampering are verified, following complaints raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party from Falta during the ongoing elections.
The clarification came amid claims made by BJP leaders alleging irregularities at certain polling stations in the Falta area. The party has demanded immediate investigation, stating that voters faced issues while casting their ballots.
Responding to the allegations, the CEO’s office stated that all complaints are being taken seriously and that the Election Commission has a mechanism in place to verify such reports. Officials said that if any malfunction or intentional interference with EVMs is proven, repolling will be ordered in the affected booths as per election rules.
Election authorities also reiterated that Electronic Voting Machines are regularly checked before polling begins and are sealed under strict supervision of polling agents and security personnel. They added that central forces are deployed to ensure smooth and fair voting across all booths.
The BJP has claimed that several voters in Falta experienced difficulties while pressing buttons on the voting machines, raising concerns about the integrity of the process. Party representatives have urged the Election Commission to take swift action.
Meanwhile, polling in West Bengal’s second phase has largely remained peaceful, with only isolated incidents of tension and complaints reported from different areas. Authorities have maintained that security arrangements are strong and the overall voting process is under control.
The Election Commission continues to monitor the situation closely, with officials stationed across districts to address grievances and ensure that democratic procedures are followed without disruption.
