Police used tear gas to disperse a mob that had erupted after the results of four assembly by-elections were announced. The BJP took three seats, while the Congress took one. After the clash, the entire Post Office Chowmuhani area, where Congress Bhavan is located, looked deserted.

Around 1 p.m., Congress supporters returned to Congress Bhavan with the winner of the Agartala assembly seat, Sudip Roy Barman, from the counting hall.

“When they were preparing for lunch, a strong group of BJP supporters attacked Congress Bhavan. The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president was hit by bricks on his head while one Congress worker, identified as Romi Miah, was stabbed by BJP supporters,” Congress media-in-charge Asish Kumar Saha said.

He alleged that BJP supporters led by a Yuva Morcha leader rained bricks on the building and damaged several motorcycles parked in front of it.

A Congress delegation led by Roy Barman met with the West Tripura superintendent of police and filed a deputation in connection with the incident.

According to Bishal Chowdhury, BJP leaders have also met with police officers and demanded action against those responsible for the attacks on the BJP corporator and others.
