Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a crucial बैठक with senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kolkata following his election rally, as the party intensifies preparations for Phase 2 of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.
According to party sources, the closed-door meeting focused on booth-level management, voter outreach strategies, and addressing feedback from constituencies that went to polls in the first phase. Shah is believed to have reviewed organisational preparedness and directed leaders to strengthen coordination at the grassroots level to ensure maximum voter mobilisation in the upcoming phase.
The meeting comes at a time when BJP leaders have sharpened their political offensive against the ruling Trinamool Congress. Senior party figures have been actively campaigning across the state, accusing the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of corruption, poor governance, and failing to maintain law and order.
Party insiders indicated that Shah emphasised the need to highlight issues such as alleged “syndicate raj,” political violence, and irregularities in the implementation of central welfare schemes. Leaders were also asked to counter the TMC’s narrative more aggressively, both on the ground and through digital campaigns.
Earlier in the day, Shah addressed a public rally where he expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in Bengal, claiming that public support is steadily shifting in the party’s favour. He urged party workers to remain vigilant and ensure free and fair voting in all booths, especially in areas considered sensitive.
Meanwhile, the TMC has hit back, accusing the BJP of spreading misinformation and attempting to polarise voters ahead of the crucial second phase. The ruling party maintains that it continues to enjoy strong grassroots support and dismissed BJP’s claims as politically motivated.
With Phase 2 approaching, political activity in Bengal has intensified, with both major parties leaving no stone unturned to gain an edge. The coming days are expected to witness even sharper campaigning as the battle for the state enters a decisive phase.
