Former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi has launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government in Delhi, criticising its stance on the proposed monthly allowance for women and alleging political pressure behind the defection of AAP MPs. Her remarks have intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the two parties in the national capital.
Speaking at a press interaction, Atishi accused the Delhi administration of delaying or weakening welfare commitments related to women’s financial support schemes. She argued that the promise of a monthly allowance for women was a key public welfare demand and alleged that the current government was not taking concrete steps to implement it effectively.
She also raised concerns over recent political developments involving the alleged defection of Members of Parliament associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. Atishi suggested that such moves were not purely political decisions but were influenced by pressure tactics, though she did not provide specific evidence for the claim. The party has often maintained that its representatives face targeted political strategies aimed at weakening its organisational structure.
The criticism was directed at the Bharatiya Janata Party, which currently holds significant influence in Delhi’s governance structure. Atishi alleged that the government’s priorities are not aligned with welfare commitments made to citizens, particularly women from economically weaker sections.
She further stated that the issue of women’s financial empowerment should be treated as a serious policy matter rather than a political slogan. According to her, delays in implementing such schemes affect large sections of society who depend on government assistance for basic financial stability.
In response to similar accusations in the past, BJP leaders have maintained that welfare policies are being reviewed and implemented through proper administrative channels, and have rejected claims of political coercion or interference.
Political analysts note that welfare schemes and party defections have become central points of confrontation between the AAP and BJP in Delhi politics. Both sides frequently accuse each other of either policy failure or political manipulation, particularly on issues related to governance and public welfare.
As the exchange continues, the debate over women’s financial support and political realignments is expected to remain a key theme in Delhi’s political landscape, reflecting the ongoing rivalry between the two major parties in the capital.
