BJP Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi After Omar Abdullah’s Jibe, Says Congress Lacks Political Strategy to Fight Elections

The BJP has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following National Conference leader Omar Abdullah’s recent criticism of the Congress party. Abdullah’s remarks, pointing out the Congress's electoral shortcomings, have triggered a fresh round of political mudslinging between the BJP and the opposition INDIA alliance.

Abdullah, during a public event, reportedly expressed frustration over Congress’s inability to contest elections effectively in critical states, indirectly questioning the party’s role as a leading force within the opposition alliance, INDIA. The comments created ripples within the opposition bloc, with critics accusing Congress of failing to strengthen its grassroots presence.

Seizing the opportunity, the BJP took aim at Rahul Gandhi, with a senior BJP spokesperson stating, “If you don’t know how to fight polls, why are you even leading an alliance? The Congress is relying on others to do the heavy lifting while its leadership remains clueless about ground realities.”

The BJP accused the Congress of undermining the opposition’s prospects by failing to address internal divisions and focusing more on rhetoric than electoral strategy. The spokesperson further added that Gandhi’s leadership had been consistently ineffective, pointing to Congress’s string of electoral losses in key states.

Responding to Abdullah’s criticism, Congress leaders downplayed the remarks, asserting that the party is committed to fighting elections collaboratively under the INDIA alliance. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “We value constructive feedback from our allies. The Congress has a strong legacy of fighting for India’s democracy, and we are prepared to face any challenge in the upcoming elections.”

However, political analysts note that Abdullah’s comments expose cracks within the INDIA alliance, which was formed to present a united front against the BJP in the 2024 general elections. The alliance comprises diverse parties with varying ideologies, making coordination and decision-making a significant challenge.

BJP leaders have been quick to exploit these internal differences, questioning the alliance’s ability to present a cohesive vision for the country. “The INDIA alliance is nothing more than a gathering of convenience. They lack a common agenda and leadership,” the BJP spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, during a rally in Chhattisgarh, dismissed the BJP’s criticism, reiterating his focus on key issues such as unemployment, inflation, and corruption. He also highlighted the Congress’s recent successes in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and several by-elections as proof of the party’s growing momentum.

Abdullah’s remarks have sparked debates within political circles about the INDIA alliance’s long-term viability. While some view it as a pragmatic coalition to challenge the BJP’s dominance, others argue that it needs stronger coordination and clearer leadership to be effective.

As the 2024 general elections approach, both the BJP and the opposition are sharpening their strategies. While the BJP projects itself as a united and stable force, the opposition INDIA alliance faces the dual challenge of maintaining internal cohesion and countering BJP’s narrative.

The latest exchange underscores the high stakes of the upcoming elections, where every remark and misstep is being closely scrutinized. Whether the INDIA alliance can overcome its internal rifts and mount a serious challenge to the BJP remains a critical question in the evolving political landscape.
