New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major reshuffle of its national organisation, with party president Nitin Nabin appointing 13 national vice-presidents as part of a new team unveiled on August 17. The appointments bring several senior leaders back into key organisational positions and are being seen as an effort to combine political experience with fresh leadership.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and former RSS functionary Ram Madhav are among the prominent names appointed national vice-presidents. Other leaders named to the post include Tirath Singh Rawat, Baijayant Jay Panda, D Purandeshwari, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi, Bharti Pravin Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Lal Singh Arya, M Nagaraja, Tariq Mansoor and Madhuchandra Kar.
The reshuffle is part of a wider overhaul of the BJP's national office-bearers. The party has announced 13 vice-presidents, eight national general secretaries and 16 national secretaries, with several new faces entering the central organisational structure. Overall, 51 of the 65 office-bearers in the new team are reported to be new.
Former Union minister Smriti Irani has returned to a prominent organisational role as one of the party's eight national general secretaries, while former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also been appointed a general secretary. BJP has retained B.L. Santhosh as national general secretary (Organisation), one of the party's most important organisational positions.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the BJP's national treasurer. The new team also includes representation from different regions and social groups, with party sources highlighting the presence of women and minority-community leaders.
The restructuring comes around seven months after Nitin Nabin took charge as BJP national president. The party is looking to strengthen its organisational machinery ahead of a series of important electoral contests, including assembly elections scheduled in several states in 2027, while also preparing for the longer-term political battle leading up to the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
The return of Ram Madhav to the BJP's central leadership is particularly notable. Madhav, who previously served as a national general secretary and played a prominent role in the party's organisational and political strategy, has now been given the vice-president's responsibility. Raje's continuation in a senior national role also gives the new team an experienced political figure with a strong organisational and electoral background.
The new appointments are effective immediately. The reshuffle signals Nabin's intent to establish his own organisational team while maintaining a balance between experienced leaders and younger political figures as the BJP prepares for its next phase of electoral and organisational mobilisation.
