BJP WILL FREE ASSAM FROM FLOODS IN NEXT FIVE YEARS: AMIT SHAH ASSURES PEOPLE

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister on Thursday urged Assamese voters to elect the BJP once again and promised to rid the state of flooding within the next five years.

We want Assam to be free of flooding. Modiji wants to eradicate flooding in Assam. Every year, Assamese citizens have to face the wrath of the flood. In this sense, work has already begun. In order to identify locations where water may be diverted to construct large lakes for agriculture and to turn them into tourist destinations, satellite mapping is now being done. Therefore, if the BJP is returned to power, we would end the floods within the next five years, he said while speaking to the crowd at Batadrava.

After the Congress-led "grand alliance" of six opposition parties questioned Prime Minister Modi on Monday about his silence about the long-standing flood situation in Assam, Shah made his promise to address the issue. Modi did not mention the disaster when he spoke to a crowd on Monday at Silapathar in North Assam's flood-affected Dhemaji district.

Shah claimed that the Congress did nothing to address Assam's issues and that what the BJP-led administration accomplished for Assam in the previous five years, the Congress was unable to accomplish in the previous 70 years.

In five years, we would lift Assam to the position of being the nation's most developed state, Shah added.
