Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on his US tour, is again in the midst of political turmoil. The BJP termed him an 'anti-national' on Monday for his so-called remarks on the neutrality of the Election Commission. Rahul is also accused of taking out his ire against the Election Commission after being upset over the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) move in the National Herald case.
Rahul Gandhi allegedly stated that there are doubts regarding the BJP alliance's win in the Maharashtra Assembly polls and that the Election Commission is behaving totally biased. But till now, no official reaction has been received from the Congress regarding these remarks.
In this regard, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, during a press conference, stated, "Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi will not be spared in the way the ED is investigating the National Herald case. Action is being taken based on evidence-based investigation. You have embezzled the country's money, you will have to go to jail."
Patra further added, "You are a traitor not just because you are insulting Indian democracy and institutions outside the country, but also because you have cheated crores of rupees of the nation. You and your mother have cheated the nation and will not be able to evade the gaze of the law.
It is learnt that on April 9, the ED presented a chargesheet under different sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) before a special court in Delhi. In it, Sonia Gandhi has been accused number one (accused no. 1) and Rahul Gandhi as accused number two (accused no. 2). As per allegations, nearly Rs 988 crore has been laundered in the National Herald case.
Political observers feel this incident could even heighten political tensions before the Lok Sabha polls. The manner in which BJP is going at it reflects how this case is not only a legal issue but has political roots running deep.
BJP leaders are also terming Rahul Gandhi's remarks about the Election Commission of India on his foreign visit as 'disgusting' and 'insulting the people's verdict'. Now we will see how the Congress will react to this attack and what the next action of the court will be.
