DMK leader TKS Elangovan has criticized the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, alleging that criminal activities have increased since the party came to power in Tamil Nadu. His remarks come amid a growing political debate over law and order in the state.
Speaking to the media, Elangovan claimed that incidents of violence, murder, and other crimes have become more frequent under the new administration. He argued that the government has failed to maintain effective control over law and order and said the situation has created concern among the public.
The comments follow a series of recent political attacks by opposition parties targeting the TVK government over reported criminal incidents across different districts of Tamil Nadu. Earlier this week, DMK leader and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami, also questioned the government's handling of law and order, citing recent crimes reported in the state.
TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, came to power after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, ending the long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in state politics. Since taking office, the government has faced strong scrutiny from opposition parties, particularly on issues related to governance, administration, and public safety.
While opposition leaders have accused the government of failing to curb crime, TVK leaders have defended their administration and maintained that steps are being taken to strengthen policing and improve public security. The party has also accused its political rivals of attempting to create a negative perception of the government soon after its formation.
The exchange of allegations highlights the increasingly intense political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu, where the ruling TVK and opposition parties continue to clash over governance and public issues. With crime and law-and-order concerns becoming a major political talking point, the issue is expected to remain at the center of state politics in the coming months.
