ECI to Arvind Kejriwal: Don’t mix up ammonia in Yamuna with Yamuna poisoning, genocide. Explain why you shouldn’t be taking action for promoting disharmony, enmity among groups, public disorder, and unrest.
ECI asks Kejriwal to provide factual evidence with specific and pointed answers on type, quantity, nature, manner of poisoning of Yamuna and details of engineers, location and methodology of detection of poison by Delhi Jal Board engineers by 11 am tomorrow, else ECI will take a decision on this.
Also, the availability of water is a governance issue and all governments at all times should ensure this for all. No one can dispute this. We will leave it to the governments and agencies to decide and we will not intervene in long pending water sharing and pollution issues during this election period especially where there are agreements and court orders of the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal.
Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday replied to ECI on his "poisoned water" remarks in which he had accused the BJP government in Haryana of poisoning Yamuna water coming to Delhi.
Kejriwal said his statements were in "furtherance of an imperative public duty."
"Statements were made in furtherance of an imperative public duty to highlight the severe toxicity and contamination of raw water received from Haryana, which presents an imminent and direct threat to public health," the letter signed by Kejriwal said.
Notably, both BJP and Congress have lodged complaints with the Election Commission against Kejriwal for making serious false allegations on Monday.
