“Go home and cook,” says a Maharashtra BJP leader to MP Supriya Sule

The sexist remark was made while the two parties sparred over OBC (Other Backward Class) reservations in Maharashtra.

The BJP representative was likely reacting to Supriya Sule’s comparison of Maharashtra’s campaign for OBC quota to Madhya Pradesh’s, and her criticism of how the BJP-run state received the Supreme Court’s approval for quota in local elections. Ms Sule, whose party governs Maharashtra alongside the Shiv Sena and the Congress, claimed she phoned Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during his visit to Delhi, but he refused to say what he did to get the reprieve.

Faced with anger, Mr Patil attempted damage management today, stating that in politics, Ms Sule should “travel to the communities and try to understand them.”
