A massive “Jan Aakrosh” rally was held in Lucknow on Tuesday, led by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, drawing large participation, especially from women supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The rally, also described as a “Jan Aakrosh Mahila Padyatra,” was organized in response to the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill to pass in the Lok Sabha.
The protest march began from the Chief Minister’s residence and proceeded towards the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, with thousands of participants joining to express their dissatisfaction over the bill’s rejection. According to reports, the BJP has been organizing such rallies across the country to mobilize public opinion against the opposition parties, whom they blame for blocking the legislation.
Addressing the gathering, Yogi Adityanath criticized the opposition, accusing them of denying women their rightful representation in legislatures. He emphasized that the proposed constitutional amendment aimed to ensure greater participation of women in governance and politics. The rally was portrayed as a platform to amplify the voice of women who, according to BJP leaders, feel “betrayed” by the opposition’s stance.
Senior BJP leaders and state ministers also took part in the march. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak stated that a large number of women joined the rally to express their anger and disappointment. He alleged that opposition unity in Parliament prevented the bill from securing the required two-thirds majority needed for passage.
The rally witnessed significant security arrangements, with police deployed along the route to manage the crowd and ensure smooth conduct. Visuals from the event showed a strong turnout, with participants carrying party flags and raising slogans in support of women’s rights and the bill.
Political observers see the rally as part of a broader strategy by the BJP to highlight gender representation as a key issue ahead of upcoming elections. By organizing such public demonstrations, the party aims to strengthen its outreach among women voters and build pressure on opposition parties.
The “Jan Aakrosh” rally in Lucknow thus turned into a major political event, reflecting both the intensity of the debate over women’s reservation and the sharpening political contest between the ruling party and the opposition at the national level.
