"Janta Seat Bhi Chappad Fadke Deti Hai": Manish Sisodia on Delhi Elections

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and candidate from Jangpura assembly constituency Manish Sisodia exuded confidence on Friday that the party would win the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections with a comfortable majority while affirming that the people have shown confidence in the AAP government.

"A majority government will come in, we will get to know better closer to the elections. When the people feel that they want to give you a majority government then...woh janta seat bhi aapko chappad fadke deti hai (then people give you a majority with a clear mandate)," Sisodia told media.

"The government will be formed...We may get 2 seats more than before or less than before," he added.

After winning 67 out of 70 seats in 2015, AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections as well by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got eight seats.

The former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party, challenging them to compare the school systems between Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, as the other two are BJP-led states.

"What will you (BJP) give Delhi? In Haryana and UP, it is your govt, tell us if you have improved the schools there?" he questioned.

The AAP leader further criticised the BJP for being 'unable' to choose a Chief Minister candidate to directly face off against the party's national convenor and former CM Arvind Kejriwal.

"Clearly we are an 'Aapda' for BJP. BJP is unable to declare a CM face in Delhi as all the leaders they have are abusive, they make inappropriate remarks about women, abuse people and distribute money and sarees. So, there is an 'Aapda' in front of BJP regarding who is credible enough to be put up against Arvind Kejriwal, there is no one," the AAP leader told media.

Earlier in the day, BJP national president JP Nadda launched his party's Sankalp Patra. During the launch, he criticised the ruling party for being an 'AAPda' in providing welfare schemes to people.

When questioned about not tabling the CAG report in the Delhi assembly, Sisodia mentioned that the report will eventually be tabled, as a special session of the assembly cannot be called during election campaigning.

A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi government's excise policy revealed a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the state exchequer.

The report's findings stated that there were deviations from the objective of the policy, a lack of transparency in pricing, and violations in issuing licenses that were not penalised.

"A special session during an election cannot be called anyway. After the elections, an (assembly) session will happen and the report will be placed. The BJP has made up a CAG report sitting in their offices, and they are distributing that to reporters. CAG's report even the Chief Minister cannot read, it can only be read at the table, in the House. It will be placed and it is possible that report is in our favour, it has happened before, and can happen again," he told media.

Delhi Assembly elections will be held in single phase on February 5 and counting will be done on February 8.
