A fresh political war broke out between the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP after AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal took a sharp swipe at BJP chief Nitin Nabin with a brief but pointed remark, “Aap kaun hain?” or “Who are you?”
The row began after Nitin Nabin, while addressing BJP workers in Lucknow, attacked opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Kejriwal over alleged insults to Sanatan Dharma. Nabin accused opposition leaders of remaining silent whenever Hindu deities were allegedly insulted and said people would not tolerate any disrespect towards Sanatan Dharma.
Kejriwal responded by sharing Nabin’s post on X and writing, “Aap kaun hain?” The short remark quickly triggered a political reaction, with BJP leaders accusing the former Delhi Chief Minister of arrogance and disrespect.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hit back strongly at Kejriwal, saying his comment showed that his “ego is still riding high.” She claimed the remark reflected frustration and desperation within the AAP leadership. Gupta also defended Nitin Nabin and said Kejriwal should not dismiss a BJP leader in such a manner.
The exchange has added another layer to the ongoing BJP-AAP confrontation in Delhi. In recent months, both sides have repeatedly clashed over governance, religious issues, public services and corruption allegations. The latest controversy has now shifted the focus to political language and personal attacks.
For the BJP, Kejriwal’s remark has become a tool to portray him as arrogant after losing power in Delhi. For AAP, the reply appears to be an attempt to mock the BJP’s attack and question Nabin’s authority to lecture opposition leaders on faith and politics.
The controversy also comes at a time when religious identity and Sanatan Dharma have become major political talking points across several states. BJP leaders have accused opposition parties of using faith selectively, while opposition leaders have alleged that the BJP is using religion for political gain.
With both sides refusing to soften their stand, the “Aap kaun hain?” remark is likely to remain a talking point in Delhi’s political circles for the next few days.
