Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, claiming that “Modi is destroying India and Trump is destroying the world,” while taking a swipe at the close relationship often highlighted between the two leaders.
Addressing a public gathering on Sunday, Kharge said the two leaders frequently praise each other because they share similar traits. Referring to them as “good friends,” he alleged that their policies have had negative consequences for their respective countries and beyond. The Congress chief also linked his criticism to issues such as inflation, unemployment, the NEET examination controversy and other governance-related concerns, accusing the BJP-led government of failing to address key public issues.
Kharge’s remarks come days after Modi and Trump met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, where both leaders held discussions on trade, regional security and the safety of Indian sailors in the Gulf region. During the meeting, Trump publicly praised Modi, describing him as a “tough negotiator” and reaffirming strong ties between the two countries.
This is not the first time Kharge has targeted the Modi-Trump relationship. In recent weeks, he has repeatedly argued that the two leaders “share traits of destruction,” claiming that their mutual admiration stems from similarities in their political approach.
The BJP has yet to issue a detailed response to Kharge’s latest remarks, though the ruling party has previously accused the Congress leadership of using provocative language against the Prime Minister for political gain.
