Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has expressed solidarity with the Opposition's protest against the police crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters in Delhi, calling the alleged action against youth demonstrators "unacceptable." In a post on X, Banerjee said her party fully supports the Opposition's sit-in protest and accused the Union government of suppressing democratic dissent.
"The police atrocities on our youth in Delhi is unacceptable. Shame on the Union government. The All India Trinamool Congress fully supports the sit-down protest by the Opposition today near Akbar Road. Our full solidarity," Banerjee wrote. She also alleged that TMC workers in Kolkata faced police action and attacks by BJP supporters during preparations for the party's Martyrs' Day programme.
The statement came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and several INDIA bloc leaders staged a protest near the Prime Minister's residence, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak and condemning the police action against student protesters. The demonstration ended with several Opposition leaders being detained by Delhi Police.
Banerjee further alleged that BJP workers in Kolkata vandalised TMC infrastructure ahead of the July 21 Martyrs' Day rally by damaging signboards, cutting microphone wires and intimidating party workers. Despite these incidents, she said the programme was successfully held with participation from supporters across West Bengal. She concluded by calling for a united fight against what she described as the BJP's "dictatorial attitude," saying the struggle would continue "from Bengal to India."
The developments come as political tensions continue to escalate over the alleged NEET paper leak and the police response to student-led demonstrations. The issue has become one of the biggest flashpoints of the ongoing Monsoon Session, with repeated protests inside and outside Parliament and growing support for the students' movement from Opposition parties.
