PUNJAB CABINET MINISTER CONVENES MEETING TO CURB SPREAD OF WATER AND VECTOR-BORNE DISEASES

After the rise of flood-like situation in the whole state of Punjab, On Monday Punjab Health and family welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh chaired a high-level inter-departmental coordination meeting of ministers to prevent the spread of water and vector-borne diseases.


Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, and Local Government Minister Balkar Singh were also present at that meeting.


On Tuesday Punjab Health and family welfare, department issued a health advisory to save people from water and vector-borne diseases those are having high chances to spread after high rainfall.


He also appealed to people to clean all the vulnerable points including fridge trays, coolers, containers, pots, and terraces in houses, offices, or any places where there is a possibility of stagnation of water.


He urged people to follow the advisory in letter and spirit, she said that only safe drinking water should be used and boiled water is preferable for drinking. Frequent hand washing with soap is a must to prevent infections.


The advisory reads that Food Materials soaked in flood water should not be used. If anyone develops fever or diarrhea, they should seek health care in Government health facilities including medical camps, and should not give self-treatment. If any clustering of cases (i.e. more than 3 cases of infectious disease in the same locality) is noticed, the nearby health facility.


While 855 breeding checkers are working to check larvae and breeding of dengue mosquitoes. And the health department has also set up special wards with 1300 beds to tackle any emergency if arises.
