Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has termed the recent twin explosions reported in the state as “minor incidents” and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to create an atmosphere of fear for political gains.
Addressing reporters, Mann said that while any incident related to public safety is being taken seriously by the state government, there is no need to panic as the situation is under control. He added that security agencies have already begun an investigation into the blasts and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
The Chief Minister further alleged that certain political forces are attempting to exaggerate isolated incidents to disturb peace in the state. Without naming individuals directly in detail, he said the BJP has been “spreading fear” among people by linking such incidents to broader law-and-order concerns in Punjab.
Officials from the Punjab Police have confirmed that they are probing the nature and cause of the explosions. Preliminary inputs suggest that the blasts were low-intensity in nature, but a detailed forensic examination is underway to determine whether there was any organised intent behind the incidents.
The opposition, however, has strongly criticised Mann’s statement, saying that downplaying security incidents could send a wrong message and undermine public confidence. BJP leaders have demanded a clearer explanation from the state government and urged stronger preventive measures.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in sensitive areas across Punjab, and intelligence agencies are monitoring developments closely. Senior officials have also held review meetings to assess the situation and coordinate response strategies.
Political analysts note that the incident has quickly taken a political turn, with both ruling and opposition parties trading accusations. The exchange highlights the ongoing tension between the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government and the BJP in national politics.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Further updates are expected once forensic reports and police findings provide more clarity on the nature of the blasts.
