Senior politician Raghav Chadha has launched his first major attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after reportedly aligning himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the party he once belonged to suffers from a “toxic work environment” and internal dysfunction.
Speaking at a political interaction, Chadha said that his experience within AAP made him realise that the organisation, which once projected itself as a transparent and reform-driven alternative, had developed serious internal issues over time. He claimed that decision-making within the party had become centralised and dissenting voices were often discouraged or ignored.
“From outside, a political party may look ideal, but inside the system, there are realities that people do not see. In my experience, the work culture had become toxic, where constructive criticism was not welcomed,” Chadha reportedly said.
He further suggested that internal disagreements were often handled in a way that created pressure on leaders and workers, leading to frustration among several members. According to him, this environment eventually made it difficult for him to continue working within the party structure.
Chadha also indicated that his political shift was not sudden, but the result of “long reflection” on the direction in which AAP was heading. While he did not go into detailed specifics, he hinted that ideological differences and organisational functioning played a major role in his decision.
The remarks mark a significant escalation in political tensions, as Chadha was previously seen as one of the prominent young faces of AAP and a close aide within the party’s leadership circle. His departure and subsequent criticism are being viewed as a setback for the party, especially at a time when it is trying to consolidate its position in national politics.
Meanwhile, AAP leaders have pushed back against the allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated. They have stated that the party continues to function democratically and that dissent is part of any political organisation. According to them, Chadha’s comments are an attempt to justify his switch in allegiance.
Political observers say such public criticism by a former senior member could intensify the ongoing war of words between AAP and BJP, adding a new dimension to already heated political rivalries.
The controversy is expected to continue drawing reactions from both sides as the political landscape remains charged ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
