Mulayam Singh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has died at the age of 82. He had recently been hospitalised at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, where he passed away.

According to reports, Mulayam Singh Yadav was brought to the Medanta hospital in Gurugram with breathing issues and later moved to the intensive care unit due to his critical health. Later, he was kept to life-supporting drugs.

On Sunday, Medanta Hospital bulletin read, "Mulayam Singh Yadav ji's condition is quite critical today and he is on life-saving drugs. He is being treated in the ICU of Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, by a comprehensive team of specialists."

Inquiring about the SP leader's health and expressing their best wishes for his speedy recovery last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath both showed their support for the Yadav family.

Mulayam Singh was reportedly suffering from a number of illnesses over the past few months and had already been hospitalised once this year. Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav, the former chief minister's son and brother, had rushed to his aid in Gurugram last week.

The Samajwadi Party and the hospital are anticipated to issue an official statement regarding the veteran politician's cause of death shortly. The exact cause of Mulayam Singh Yadav's passing has not yet been made public.

Yadav, who was born on November 22, 1939, is one of Uttar Pradesh's most well-known politicians. He has been elected as the Chief Minister three times and has also held the position of Minister of Defence for the Union Government. He has been elected as an MLA ten times and Lok Sabha MP seven times.
