Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia has written to the Delhi High Court, claiming that he is being denied fair legal representation and justice, and that “only Satyagraha is left” as a course of action.
In his letter, Sisodia alleged that lawyers are unwilling to appear on his behalf due to pressure and fear, raising serious concerns about the functioning of the justice system. He stated that without proper legal representation, his ability to defend himself in court is severely compromised. Referring to the principle of non-violent resistance popularised by Mahatma Gandhi, Sisodia suggested that he may be compelled to adopt Satyagraha if the situation does not improve.
The AAP leader urged the court to ensure that he receives a fair trial and adequate legal support, emphasizing that access to legal counsel is a fundamental right. He argued that the current situation undermines the rule of law and could set a troubling precedent.
The development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings against Sisodia, who has been under investigation in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi’s excise policy. The case has been a major political flashpoint between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, with both sides accusing each other of political vendetta.
While Sisodia has raised concerns about denial of justice, there has been no immediate official response from the court regarding the contents of his letter. Legal experts note that courts generally ensure representation for accused persons, including the provision of legal aid if necessary.
The issue has sparked political reactions, with AAP leaders backing Sisodia’s claims and alleging misuse of central agencies, while BJP leaders have dismissed the allegations and maintained that the law is taking its due course.
As the matter unfolds, attention will be on how the court responds to Sisodia’s concerns and whether any steps are taken to address the issues raised in his communication.
