Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to “scare Hindu voters” ahead of elections in the Bhabanipur area, while reiterating his party’s confidence of performing strongly in the constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari claimed that the BJP has a lead in seven wards of Bhabanipur based on internal assessments and voter feedback. He said the party is confident about improving its position in the region and challenged the ruling Trinamool Congress’s influence in the area.
Adhikari also alleged that Mamata Banerjee was using divisive politics to influence voter sentiment. He claimed that such tactics would not work and insisted that voters were responding positively to the BJP’s campaign.
He further stated that the ground reality in Bhabanipur reflects growing support for the BJP, and accused the Trinamool Congress of attempting to create fear among sections of voters. However, he did not provide detailed data to support his claim of leads in specific wards.
The Trinamool Congress has not yet issued a detailed response to Adhikari’s remarks, but party leaders have in the past rejected similar allegations, calling them politically motivated and baseless.
Bhabanipur, a high-profile constituency, has remained politically significant in West Bengal politics, especially as it is represented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The area often sees intense political campaigning and strong statements from both major parties.
As election activities continue, both the BJP and Trinamool Congress are making competing claims about voter support across different regions of the state, reflecting the high-stakes nature of the contest.
