The meeting came a day after Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi was summoned by CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja, and NCP's Praful Patel to discuss standing for president.
When the Left leaders visited NCP president Pawar yesterday, the call was made in his presence.
Gandhi has requested time to consider the plan and has stated that he will respond to the opposition.
Meanwhile, Farooq Abdullah, Dewe Gowda, and Ghulam Nabi Azad, all of whom are supporters of the NC, remain on the table.
