Charles De Ketelaere was the star of the night, scoring twice and adding an assist as Belgium punished repeated defensive mistakes from the American side. He opened the scoring early, giving Belgium control before the USA tried to fight back. Malik Tillman briefly brought the hosts level with a superb free-kick, but the momentum did not last long. Belgium responded quickly and never allowed the Americans to settle.
The match was played in front of a packed Seattle crowd, with huge home support behind the United States. However, Belgium’s experience and sharp attacking play proved too strong. Hans Vanaken extended the lead in the second half after another defensive lapse, while Romelu Lukaku sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal.
For the USA, the defeat ended hopes of a deep run on home soil. Christian Pulisic’s injury exit in the second half added to their disappointment. Belgium will now face Spain in the quarterfinals at Los Angeles Stadium.
