Hockey India has announced an 18-member Indian men’s squad for the upcoming U18 Asia Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Kakamigahara, Japan from May 29 to June 6, 2026.
The squad has been selected after an intensive national coaching camp held at the SAI Centre in Bhopal, where players underwent rigorous training and evaluation under the supervision of coaching staff including Sardar Singh and Rajnish Mishra. The selection process also included high-intensity exposure matches against Australia’s U18 side, which helped the selectors assess players under international match conditions.
Forward Ketan Kushwaha has been named captain of the side, which the coaching staff believes offers a strong balance of attack, midfield control, and defensive depth. Officials said the team has been built with a focus on tactical discipline, penalty corner execution, and adapting to high-pressure situations.
According to Hockey India, the camp initially featured a larger group of probables, which was gradually narrowed down based on performance, fitness levels, and consistency. The final 18 players were chosen to represent India at one of the most important junior-level continental tournaments.
Coach Sardar Singh said the selection process was highly competitive and credited the Australia exposure series for giving the players valuable experience ahead of the Asia Cup. He added that the squad has been prepared to face top Asian teams with a focus on structured gameplay and mental toughness.
The U18 Asia Cup is seen as a key stepping stone for young players aiming to progress into India’s junior and senior national hockey teams. India will be hoping for a strong performance as they prepare to take on some of the best youth sides in Asia.
With the squad now finalized, the team will enter the final phase of preparation before departing for Japan later this month.
