India’s Rohit Yadav produced a stunning performance in men’s javelin throw, recording a career-best 87.05m at the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.
The 25-year-old thrower achieved the mark in his final attempt to win the gold medal at Kalinga Stadium. With this throw, Rohit became the leading Indian javelin thrower of the season and moved to second place in the global top list behind Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who has thrown 92.62m this year.
Rohit’s effort was also a new meet record, going past the previous mark of 84.35m set by Manu DP in 2022. His earlier personal best was 83.04m, recorded in 2023, making this a massive improvement in his career.
The throw also helped Rohit qualify for major upcoming events, including the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. He finished ahead of Yashvir Singh, who threw 83.72m, and Sachin Yadav, who managed 82.32m.
The performance has given Indian athletics another big boost, especially in javelin throw, where India has already gained global recognition through Neeraj Chopra. Rohit’s 87.05m mark also placed him ahead of Neeraj’s season-best of 85.69m in the current global list.
After the event, Rohit said the performance had given him confidence ahead of bigger competitions. His record-breaking throw has now made him one of India’s most exciting names to watch in javelin.
With this result, Rohit Yadav has not only won gold but also announced himself strongly on the world stage.
