Biggest Hajj post-Covid-19, Around 1 million pilgrims slated to perform holy pilgrimage this year

Before the pandemic, in 2019, around 25 lakh pilgrims were recorded to have performed the pilgrimage. In 2020, doors for the Hajj were closed for foreigners to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Only 10,000 people were allowed to perform the Hajj. Whereas in 2021, around 60,000 pilgrims were allowed

This year, the streets of Mecca are filled with Hajj pilgrims from across the globe. 2022 has witnessed the highest number of pilgrims since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.


This year, around 10 lakh people have registered for the holy pilgrimage and 8.5 lakhs are coming from abroad. As per Saudi officials, so far, more than 6.5 lakh pilgrims have landed in the country to perform the Hajj.
