Ferdinand Marcos Jr ascends to presidential chair of Philippines

Ferdinand Marcos Jr is all set to helm the Philippines as he has been sworn in as the new president of the country. The sworn-in ceremony was held in Manila and has succeeded the previous president, Rodrigo Duterte.


With Ferdinand’s ascension to the presidential seat, the Marcos political dynasty has re-established itself after getting ousted in 1986.


It was last month when Marcos Jr secured a thumping victory in elections. Daughter of the previous president Rodrigo Duterte, namely Sara Duterte has been appointed as the vice president of the country.


The oath-taking ceremony was held at the National Museum. Earlier Marcos Jr was invited by Duterte to Malacanang presidential palace.


Ahead of the event, the security in the capital was beefed up. Around 15,000 security personnel were deployed across Manila.


Marcos Jr, 64, has taken the control of the country when the Philippines is just starting to recuperate from the Covid-19 pandemic. The country is also facing sky-high inflation and the rising debt is also posing threat to the country.
