The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan who was in a stable condition after surgery after being hurt in an assassination attempt, has demanded that snap elections be held. Imran Khan's party has said that it will organise nationwide protests following Friday prayers to support this demand.

Khan, 70, was leading a protest march against the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif when a gunman fired a barrage of shots at him and others who were riding on a container-mounted truck in the Wazirabad region of Punjab province. Khan was shot in the right leg as a result.

Asad Umar, the PTI's secretary general, tweeted that the anti-government demonstrations will go on until their demands were met.

“Today after Friday prayer, a countrywide protest will be organised. Until demands of Imran Khan are accepted, the countrywide protest will continue,” Umar said on Thursday.

Khan has been calling for new elections and launched a lengthy march to Islamabad on October 28 to pressure the government to comply with his demands, but he did not specify them.

The party has stated that Khan, 70, is stable following a failed attempt on his life and is determined to continue his political battle to pressure the government to schedule an early election.

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhry claimed it was "a planned assassination attempt on Imran Khan and he escaped narrowly." "Imran Khan and the PTI leadership were targets for the assassin. It was a burst from an automatic weapon; it wasn't 9MM. There are no two opinions that it was a narrow escape, he tweeted on Thursday.

According to the police, seven people were injured while one person died. However, the Dawn newspaper reported on Friday that there were 14 injuries in addition to one death.

According to his party, Khan was taken by road to the Shaukat Khanum Medical facility he built himself in Lahore, where he underwent a procedure and recovered successfully. Khan was determined about carrying on with his protest march, the party added.
