India head into the final day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with an impressive haul of 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze, after a spectacular run across several sporting disciplines. The performance has lifted India to fourth place in the overall medal standings.

Saturday proved to be India's most successful day of the Games so far, with the country winning 16 medals in a single day. Boxing was at the centre of the celebrations, with Indian boxers producing a remarkable haul of seven gold and three silver medals. The result underlined India's growing strength in the sport and provided a major boost to the overall medal tally.

India's success, however, has not been limited to boxing. Athletes in athletics, judo and para athletics have also contributed to the medal count. Gulveer Singh added a bronze in athletics, while Unnati Sharma secured bronze in judo, further highlighting India's depth across different disciplines.

The performance is particularly notable because India's contingent entered the Glasgow Games facing a different challenge from previous editions. Several sports that traditionally deliver medals for India, including wrestling, badminton, shooting, hockey, cricket, squash, table tennis and archery, are absent from the 2026 programme. As a result, greater expectations were placed on disciplines such as boxing, weightlifting, athletics and judo.

Weightlifting also played an important role early in India's campaign. Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal in Glasgow, while Rishikanta Singh and Muthupandi Raja also secured medals in the competition's opening stages.

India still have opportunities to add to their tally on the final day. The remaining schedule includes events in judo and track cycling, with Indian athletes looking to finish the Games on a high. According to reports, India could theoretically add as many as seven more medals on the final day. With the closing ceremony also scheduled for Sunday, India's 39-medal tally already represents a strong campaign considering the reduced number of sports at Glasgow 2026. The final day will determine whether the Indian contingent can push its total even higher before the Games officially come to an end.
