IS NEW UK PM RISHI SUNAK CONNECTED TO BOTH INDIA AND PAKISTAN; MIXED REMARKS ALL OVER INTERNET

On Tuesday, Rishi Sunak made history by becoming the first British prime minister of Indian descent. With this, bitter rivals Pakistan and India joined the historical event, but neither of them had any involvement.

Days after winning the historic election for Conservative Party leader, the 42-year-old former investment banker and politician assumed office as the UK's first Hindu prime minister. In 210 years, he is the country's youngest prime minister.

Although Sunak's grandparents were born in Gujranwala, which is now in modern-day Pakistan, they were British Indian natives. Consequently, in an unusual sense, the PTI news agency reports that the new British leader is both an Indian and a Pakistani.

His ancestry information is only currently available on social media, where both Indians and Pakistanis are discussing his rise to prominence amid the UK political crisis.

A user named Queen Lioness 86 said on Twitter that the Sunaks are a Punjabi Khatri family from Gujranwala who are currently living in Pakistan. In 1935, Rishi's paternal grandfather Ramdas Sunak moved from Gujranwala to Nairobi to work as a clerk.

She also gave more information about the Sunak family. Although Sunak hasn't been discussed in Pakistan officially, some people have proposed the government claim him on social media, according to PTI.

She stated that before departing for Kenya in 1937, Suhag Rani Sunak, the wife of Ramdas, first relocated from Gujranwala to Delhi with her mother-in-law.

Shafat Shah, another user tweeted, “I think Pakistan should also lay claim on Rishi Sunak because his paternal grandparents were from Gujranwala who from there migrated to Kenya and then to Britain."

Someone with a Twitter handle as Grand Finale wrote: “Wow! What a tremendous achievement. A Pakistani has now ascended to the highest office in England. Anything is possible if you believe."

"Going to bed in the US with hopes that a #Punjabi from #Gujranwala will be the #PrimeMinister of the #UK in the morning! Both #Pakistan and #India should be jointly proud of this moment!" one more user, Yaqoob Bangash wrote on Twitter.

Some people, like Akhtar Saleem, are more practical and want Sunak to resolve the Kohinoor diamond controversy, which has persisted for a long time. Saleem remarked, "I think Pakistan should ask him to return the Kohinoor diamond that was stolen from Lahore since he is becoming prime minister," he said.
