ISLAMABAD BECOMES RISKIEST PLACE FOR JOURNALISTS IN PAKISTAN WITH 40 PERCENT RISE IN ATTACK

Upsurge of violence lists on top against media professionals in Pakistan

As per annual Pakistan Press Freedom Report , Islamabad is the most unsafe place for journalists in Pakistan as 40 to 56 percent of crime against Press took place at the city in the past year.

   

 Crime rates towards media professionals, journalists and media organisations have increased about 60 percent with atleast 140 cases of threats and attacks reported against them.

 

 Punjab is the second most dangerous place for journalists with 35 (25 percent) followed by 32 (23 percent) cases in Sindh.

 

 Media professionals have become more prone to attack and violence in recent months as the no of attacks escalated to 140 between May 2022 and March 2023 from 86 2021-22 , according to Dawn.

   

 As quoted by Dawn, “ In this grave hour of economic and political crisis of Pakistan, incessant attacks on independent journalism has blocked access to essential information when the public needs reliable news to understand the issues and respond to them.”
