Pakistan Forces Accused of Killing Baloch Workers in Gwadar

Gwadar: Allegations have surfaced in Pakistan’s Balochistan province accusing security forces of killing several Baloch workers during a recent incident in the coastal city of Gwadar, an area already marked by long-standing unrest and security operations.

Local reports and rights groups claim that the incident took place amid heightened security activity in the region, where tensions have remained high due to ongoing clashes between state forces and separatist groups. Families of the victims and local activists have alleged that the deceased were labourers and civilians, not armed militants.

However, official confirmation from Pakistani authorities regarding the identities of those killed or the exact circumstances of the incident has not yet been independently verified. Security officials have previously maintained that operations in Balochistan target militant groups responsible for repeated attacks on civilians and security personnel.

Gwadar, a key port city and part of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has witnessed repeated security crackdowns in recent years due to insurgent activity. The region has seen both militant attacks and counter-operations, often resulting in conflicting claims from authorities and local groups.

In earlier incidents in Balochistan, including Gwadar, Pakistan’s military has stated that operations are conducted against armed separatist elements, while human rights organisations have frequently raised concerns over alleged civilian casualties and forced disappearances. These claims remain a point of dispute between official sources and rights activists.

According to recent reporting, the broader security situation in Balochistan has remained volatile in 2026, with multiple attacks and counter-operations carried out across the province involving both militants and security forces.

At present, there has been no independent verification of the latest accusations, and investigations or official statements are awaited. The situation continues to develop, with tensions in Gwadar highlighting the fragile security environment in Pakistan’s southwestern region.

Authorities are expected to issue a clarification as pressure mounts from local communities and rights groups seeking accountability and transparency over the incident.
