A couple and their 3 children were found dead at their home in Lisadi Gate Police Station area.
Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada, who visited the spot on Thursday night, said police received a call about a locked house. When they reached the spot, they found the house was locked from outside.
"After gaining access through the roof, they found the bodies of Moin, his wife Asma and their three daughters -- Afsa (8), Aziza (4) and Adiba (1)," Tada told.
"The manner in which the house was locked suggests that the individual involved in the crime may have been someone known to the family," he said.
The SSP said the preliminary investigation suggests old enmity as the reason behind the crime.
"A detailed investigation is underway,” he said.
The SSP added the legs of one of the deceased was found tied with a bedsheet. Forensic team and senior officers are collecting evidence from the spot.
The family had shifted to the area recently and police are investigating their background to get more information, he said.
Moin, a mechanic, and his wife Asma were missing since Wednesday. Moin's brother Salim was the first to see the horror. Salim was worried about his brother and reached Moin's house with his wife. After several attempts to open the door, they broke open the door with the help of neighbours. They found Moin and Asma lying on the floor and the bodies of the children hidden in a bed box.
