Damoh (Madhya Pradesh) January 9: Two children were charred to death and one was critically injured when their hut caught fire in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh on Wednesday, said an official.
Talking to media, Damoh District Magistrate Sudhir Kochar said, the incident occurred when the family was boiling potatoes in the hut when a fire broke out, Jahnvi (3), Kirti (2) and Malti (6 months) were inside. Two died of burns, one is serious and on oxygen support.
“Govind Adivasi along with his family used to work as labourers on the land of Khilan Singh Rajput. They lived in a straw and grass hut. They had three daughters and all of them were playing there. At that time they had kept potatoes to boil on the fire inside the hut. While having food, first daughter got burnt. Other two daughters ran to save her and got burnt too,” said DM Kochar.
“Three daughters were Jhanvi Adivasi, 3 years, Kirti Adivasi, 2 years and Malti Adivasi, 6 months old. Two of them could not be saved as they were almost 100 per cent burnt. One is still fighting for life and she too is almost 100 per cent burnt. She is on oxygen support,” said DM Kochar.
Dr Chakresh Kumar, RMO District Hospital, Damoh said “Three children were referred here, out of which 2 were brought dead and one child is serious. We will provide primary treatment and refer her to a higher centre. All three children were 100 per cent burnt. Cause of burning is not known.”
DM Kochar said Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has condoled the death and announced ex gratia.
“Chief Minister has condoled the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased girls and Rs 1 lakh for the injured girl,” he said.
