Reservation Policy Review in J&K: Sub-Committee to Decide the Future

The Jammu and Kashmir government has formed a cabinet sub-committee to re-evaluate its reservation policy, sparking debates across political and social platforms. The move comes in response to mounting demands from underrepresented groups seeking a more inclusive framework for equitable opportunities.

Chaired by a senior minister, the committee is expected to examine existing quotas, address disparities, and recommend necessary changes. Stakeholders argue that the current policy fails to reflect the region’s evolving socio-economic dynamics.

Opposition leaders, however, see this as a political maneuver ahead of the much-anticipated Assembly elections. They claim the government is using the reservation issue to consolidate its voter base. Critics also argue that past committees formed for similar purposes yielded minimal results, casting doubt on the efficacy of the current initiative.

On the other hand, community leaders and activists have cautiously welcomed the decision. They emphasize that the review should be unbiased and aimed at genuinely uplifting marginalized sections, rather than favoring particular groups for political gains.

Experts believe that any amendment to the reservation policy could significantly impact the social and political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. While some hail the move as long overdue, others warn that mishandling the issue could deepen existing divides.

The sub-committee has been given three months to present its findings. As expectations rise, all eyes are on the government to deliver a balanced and progressive solution.
