Army Officer Martyred During Encounter With Militants in J-K's Akhnoor

Two militants were gunned down by security personnel during a skirmish in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials informed. 

The encounter ensued after security personnel launched an anti-terror operation in the Halkan Gali region.

"Based on specific input, a Joint Operation was initiated by Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Srinagar Sector CRPF in gen area Halkan Gali, Anantnag. Suspicious movement close to Halkan Gali was noticed on 02 Nov 2024 and challenged by alert troops, wherein terrorists fired indiscriminate shots at own column. Own troops successfully retaliated, wherein two terrorists were eliminated. Operation is ongoing," Chinar Corps, Indian Army tweeted on X.

This follows a similar encounter erupting in Srinagar's Khanyar locality hours ago. Earlier in the morning, an encounter erupted in Srinagar's Khaynar locality during a cordon and search operation by a joint police and security forces team.

Search operations are also ongoing in the Panar sector of Bandpora. Late evening on November 1, a suspicious movement was seen in the overall area of Panar in Bandpora by vigilant troops. On being asked to halt, terrorists opened general fires and fled into the jungle.

In a similar incident on Friday, terrorists targeted two non-locals in Mazhama, in Budgam district's Magam area. Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the entire area to arrest the attackers.

Terrorists attacked two outsiders in Mazhama, which falls under Magam sector in Budgam district. The hurt persons were instantly rushed to the nearby hospital, where their situation is reported to be stable. Security forces cordoned off the entire area in order to apprehend the perpetrators," Official sources informed.

On October 29, the security forces killed three terrorists in a high-risk firefight in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir, after an attack on an Army convoy.

A doctor and six labourers constructing a tunnel along the Srinagar-Leh national highway in the Ganderbal district were killed when terrorists ambushed a construction site there on October 20.
