President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday described the success of *Operation Sindoor* as a “defining moment” in India’s counter-terror and deterrence strategy, praising the armed forces for their professionalism and commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty. She was speaking at the inaugural session of the third edition of the Indian Army’s *Chanakya Defence Dialogue-2025*, held in New Delhi.
Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi formally welcomed the President at the venue. In her address, President Murmu noted that the Indian military has consistently demonstrated courage and adaptability during conventional warfare, counter-insurgency operations, and humanitarian missions.
Referring specifically to Operation Sindoor, she said the mission signalled India’s moral clarity in acting “firmly yet responsibly” in the pursuit of peace. The operation, she added, showcased India’s growing strategic capability and sent a strong message globally.
The President also highlighted the evolving geopolitical environment, stating that shifting alliances, technological disruption, and new domains like cyber, space and cognitive warfare are redefining national security. She emphasised that India’s approach balances strategic autonomy with global responsibility, guided by the principle of *Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam*.
Murmu lauded the Army’s ongoing *Decade of Transformation* initiative, which aims at structural reforms, doctrinal updates and technological enhancement to make the force future-ready and self-reliant. She also appreciated efforts to expand the role of women in the armed forces, calling it a major step toward inclusion and inspiration for future generations.
The President expressed confidence that discussions from the Chanakya Defence Dialogue will offer valuable inputs for shaping India’s defence and security policies. She affirmed her belief that the forces will continue to contribute to the nation’s goal of achieving a *Viksit Bharat* (developed India) by 2047.
