During night of April 4-5, 2025, Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid along International Border (IB) in Jammu by shooting one Pakistani infiltrator. BSF personnel deployed on the border saw some movement on borderline and noticed a man moving towards Indian side. Despite heavy warning, the infiltrator kept moving forward and BSF had no other option but to shoot him.
The identity and motive of the intruder are being questioned. The Pakistani Rangers were protested against after the incident in strong words, and the fact was again emphasized that Pakistan must prepare itself to thwart such attempts.
This attack is an indication of strains escalating on the India-Pakistan border, with more efforts on the part of Pakistan to introduce terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir. Terror activities along the border have intensified of late, with terrorist-security forces encounters in a number of incidents in recent months.
BSF patrol has been the major reason to deter such incursions, for example, drone-based weapon deliveries from Pakistan in aid of terror attacks in J&K.
The incident validates the necessity to remain in a state of high alert along the border to ensure national security and keep cross-border terrorism at bay.
