KULGAM, APRIL 5: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Administration Kulgam today launched a mega Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign aimed at combating drug abuse in the region.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), during an event held at the new conference hall in the district.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for a unified and sustained effort to eliminate drug abuse from society. He stated that the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir initiative goes beyond just raising awareness; it also focuses heavily on rehabilitation and long-term support for individuals affected by substance abuse.

"The real battle against this social evil lies not just in spreading awareness but in providing rehabilitation and support to the victims," said DC Athar Aamir Khan. "We must approach this issue with empathy and work together to eliminate drug abuse from our society."

The Deputy Commissioner further highlighted that a series of measures have already been implemented to tackle the drug menace in the district. He also called for a shift in societal attitudes towards those affected by drug abuse, advocating that they should not be stigmatized but rather supported through their rehabilitation journey.

The week-long IEC campaign will feature a variety of activities, including awareness rallies, cultural events, community engagements, and interactive sessions across panchayats, municipalities, and educational institutions. The initiative aims to bring together students, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to form a united front against drug abuse.

In addition, the district administration organized a sensitization and orientation program for resource persons at the new conference hall of the mini-secretariat. The Deputy Commissioner presided over the session, where the role of the resource persons was highlighted to ensure the campaign remains focused and result-oriented.

During the program, IEC materials were distributed to participants to assist in spreading awareness at the grassroots level. A short film depicting the harmful effects of drug abuse was also screened, aiming to educate the attendees and reinforce the core message of the campaign.

The campaign marks a significant step in Kulgam's commitment to creating a drug-free society through collective action and support for those affected by addiction.
