DH Kulgam Achieves Two Major Surgical Firsts

Kulgam, Nov 15: District Hospital Kulgam has marked a major milestone in healthcare by successfully performing its first Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and its first complex laparoscopic repair of major bile duct injuries, bringing advanced surgical care closer to the people of the district.

The first TKR was performed on Abdul Gani of Lakhdipora by a team led by Dr. Tawseef, with assistance from Mr. Inayat and anesthesia support from Dr. Naseer, Dr. Saima, Ms. Mehvish, and Mr. Zahoor Ahmad.

In another breakthrough, the hospital successfully carried out a highly complex laparoscopic reconstruction for major bile duct injuries — a procedure usually reserved for tertiary care centers. The surgery was led by Dr. Arshad Ahmed Baba, assisted by Dr. Ashiq Hussain Bhat, postgraduate doctors, and OT technician Basit Ahmad. The anesthesia team was headed by Dr. Omar Itoo.

The Medical Superintendent appreciated both teams, noting that these achievements highlight the hospital’s expanding capabilities and reduce the need for patients to seek advanced treatment outside the district.
