On October 12, 2025, Gulmarg, one of Kashmir’s most popular hill stations, hosted India’s first international downhill mountain biking event, known as the Jabarvan Legends Series. The event attracted top professional bikers from around the world, including participants from Australia, Indonesia, Brazil, Iran, Nepal, and several other countries. Beyond promoting adventure sports, the competition played a significant role in strengthening tourism and boosting the local economy in Gulmarg.
The event was inaugurated by Satish Sharma, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Tourism of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated, “This is a historic moment for Kashmir’s sports landscape. Gulmarg will gain international recognition not only for its natural beauty but also for adventure sports.” He also announced plans to make the event an annual affair and to organize competitions at school, college, and university levels, aiming to foster interest in adventure sports among the younger generation and strengthen the sporting culture in the region.
The competition has had a positive economic impact, drawing more tourists to Gulmarg. Local hotels, homestays, restaurants, and other businesses have benefited from the influx of visitors. The Jammu and Kashmir government fully supports such initiatives and plans to host more international adventure sports events in the future.
