A rusted anti-tank mine in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir has instilled fear into the locals. Sources said a metal object resembling a bomb was tracked down by the villagers of a remote locality in Samba early Wednesday morning. The villagers informed the local administration and security forces about it.

Getting the clue, the army and bomb squad raced to the spot, cordoned off the area, and took precautions. Experts said the mine was old and rusted but could still pose a threat. A specialized team has begun the task of defusing it for the public's safety.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the mine could have been left behind from past military operations or may have been intended for terrorist purposes. Since Samba is a significant border area of Jammu and Kashmir, similar recoveries have been made in the past.

After this incident, authorities have advised the community to remain alert and convey promptly to the security forces about any unidentified or suspicious objects. The area along with the security arrangements has been put under heavier patrolling.

Security officials said such discoveries indicate past military engagements or probable terrorist activities. Therefore, a detailed investigation is being conducted in order to unfold the mine's source and intention.
