There was a shootout between terrorists and security forces on March 28, 2025, in the Suffain locality of the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The locality is under siege as a search operation is being conducted. This is the second of a series of encounters that have taken place in the area in recent times, with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army conducting joint operations after intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.
The operation was initiated when security forces were informed about militants who had taken refuge in the forest region of Suffain. The initial exchange of fire had begun some days ago, and due to this, huge searches began to spread from Sanyal village to the surrounding regions.
Security has been tightened on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, and various suspects have been detained for interrogation.
The authorities also added that in the course of the operation, they extracted enormous quantities of material such as grenades and ammunition.
Individuals have also been requested to be on the lookout and report instances of suspected cases.
This increase in violence is a worrisome trend in the sense that such terror activities, otherwise limited to some regions, have now started spreading to other regions such as Kathua, otherwise relatively peaceful.
The situation remains tense as security forces are still pursuing the process of eliminating the threat posed by the militants.
