A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was martyred during an anti-terror operation in Akhnoor sector in Jammu and Kashmir. He was badly injured in a gun battle between the army and terrorists and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. As per sources in the army, the officer made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning, when security forces launched a search operation after getting the news of the suspected presence of terrorists in the area. In the course of the operation, the terrorists opened fire suddenly, and the army jawans returned fire. In the course of the encounter, the JCO was also hit in firing from the enemy side. He was immediately shifted for medical treatment, but he did not survive.
The army added that this sacrifice would not be made in vain. A huge search operation is on in the entire region to apprehend the militants and vigilance has been enhanced in the border regions.
There is tension throughout the Akhnoor area following this incident. Locals have also been instructed to remain alert. Indian Army soldiers frequently lose their lives while performing counter-terrorism operations along the border. This incident again reminded us of how deep and significant their sacrifice is in ensuring the security of the nation.
