In an effort to tackle the manpower shortage in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has decided to cut his own security cover by more than 65%. Speaking during the Thana Diwas event in Jammu, Prabhat explained that this move is part of a broader strategy to manage the situation and strengthen law and order across the region, including additional deployments in Jammu.
Leading by example, Prabhat shared that two-thirds of his personal security team had been relieved of duty. He emphasized that true leadership starts at home and that he was willing to make personal sacrifices for the greater good.
The DGP also addressed concerns about police personnel deployment, assuring that those who perform well will be rewarded with better postings. He acknowledged that systemic changes take time but assured that the force's overall functioning would improve gradually, stating, "Rome wasn’t built in a day."
On the issue of drug abuse, Prabhat held Pakistan's Army and ISI responsible for controlling narcotics smuggling through terror groups. He expressed concern over the rising number of youth involved in drug abuse, saying it points to a lack of proper parental guidance.
Prabhat made it clear that he wasn’t in a position of authority to rule but was simply there to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also warned Investigating Officers that strict action would be taken if they fail to file chargesheets within 60 days, particularly in cases involving women’s safety.
